After visiting Canterbury Cathedral, my friend Ruth dreamt that people kept trying to crown her Archbishop. She kept refusing, though, becuase she didn’t want to end up like Thomas Beckett. The Regency romance novel connection relates to the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is always owing favors to the heroes and handing out special licences so the hero and heroine can marry quickly because, well, you know.
Below is a picture of the tomb of the Archbishop who took on the position in 1828, just after the Regency era (It was the closest I could find. There are lots of Archbishops!). And, of course, the Cathedral itself, which is really quite stunning.
