Much has already been said about Eloisa’s double life as a Shakespeare Professor/Romance Author and that she is married to a genuine Italian Knight. I will add that I am lucky to know her and that she is one of the kindest, smartest, and loveliest people I’ve ever met. Her books, including her latest, When The Duke Returns, are also on my auto-buy/read-immediately list and they should be on yours, too! She so graciously took the time to answer The Same Six Questions I Always Ask.
1. If you could have any super power, what would it be?
The power to read minds — but only if I wanted to! I don’t want to be
plagued by reading the drycleaner’s mind every time I bring in my clothes.
And now I think about it, I want my husband’s mind exempt too… Wait! And
my teenage son! I definitely don’t want to know what he’s thinking about
80% of the time.
2. Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
I am very very fond of Benedict, in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
3. What is one of your most romantic moments?
I made love in a snowstorm once, on a frozen lake… ‘nuf said.
4. Of the places you’ve traveled to, which is your favorite?
Florence. I love its little streets, and the feeling early in the morning
that Dante might stride around the building followed by a flock of
black-coated students… Not to mention the shopping!
5. What’s your most used curse word?
Is this a family-friendly website? Ahem. I have a terrible propensity for
cursing.
6. Please take a moment of shameless self-promotion:
I have a new book out, When the Duke Returns, and honestly — I think it’s my best. And I think it may be one of the more original historical romances ever published, as well. That’s because no one else, as far as I know, has written a book about broken down Georgian toilets.
For everyone who is stressed out by the holidays and just wants to get away from the idea of too many relatives, too much food, and too much whiny children… there’s no where better to go than into a really terrific get-away-from-it-all romance. Like mine! she said cheerfully.

Hi Maya and Eloisa!!
When the Duke Returns IS the perfect holiday get away. I plan on using it as a diversion from family on Thursday
I am so excited for When The Duke Returns! It definitely sounds like one of the most original ones. Broken down toilets and a love story? So intriguing…
A snowstorm on a frozen lake, Eloisa? Really? I grew up in frigid Michigan. I know frozen lakes. I’m in awe.
I’m a the lucky one who has already read WHEN THE DUKE RETURNS. I have to agree with Eloisa. I think it’s the best book she’s ever written and I LOVED IT!

Did I say it was my best book? Wow, not one of my more modest moments, huh? I’m so glad you loved it, PJ!

I’m sure it is the best! Will confirm once mine arrives from amazon.
Selective mind reading is one of the most original super powers people have wished for. I definitely agree that the “selective” part is essential.
I’ve heard so many great things about WHEN THE DUKE RETURNS and was thrilled to find a copy in the grocery store when shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. Sadly I had to give up my copy before I had a chance to read it. It turns our my mother-in-law has never read an Eloisa James novel and well, that simply would not do!
Maya~ I love your six questions! I can’t stop thinking about what I would want my superpower to be.
