You must admit that a tea party is the perfect celebration for a romance novel. It’s something the heroines and their friends certainly would have done. Last year, my aunt Heather had the brilliant and lovely idea to host a little tea party in her home for the release of my debut novel The Heir And The Spare. That party was such a success (people were asking her about it all year) that we had an even grander tea party to celebrate The Rogue And The Rival.
This year, we decided that our sweet little party should benefit the Allentown Symphony Hall (also something romance heroines would have done). Our local symphony is the smallest one in the country that also owns its own hall—a very nice one, I might add, and the site of the tea party. Over 120 people showed up for a signed copy of The Rogue And The Rival and a chance to see the symphony hall (and to enjoy the best cupcakes in the world).
I also gave a little talk about how I started reading romance (my momma made me), and why I started writing novels and a little bit about my books. I was also able to say thank you to all the people that made this tea party happen.
I’d like to give a super special spectacular thanks to my aunt Heather. She’s like a second mom to me, and her three daughters are technically my cousins, but we’re closer than that (check out the picture below). From Heather, I learned about being organized and being prepared—two things that have helped me a lot in life. She also sets a great example about getting involved and giving back to the community.Thank you, Heather!
The tea party was a success because of the efforts of the following people: Mark, Bernadette, Jessica, my momma, Leah and my cousins Shelbi, Sarah and Gillian. And last, but not least, THANK YOU to everyone that came out to drink tea, chat with friends, and get a signed copy of my book! It was lovely to be able to meet everyone.

How nice! I want to have a tea party!
You know, Maya, you have me thinking. My birthday is in December and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do to celebrate. I think now that I want to have a tea party. It would be fun. My friends and I could dress up, drink tea, and eat scones.
(I love scones…) Thanks for the inspiration!
Laura, that sounds like a lovely birthday celebration!
Thanks! I’m planning it out now.
