I host ONE party every year, and it’s for the Oscars. I’m not particularly a movie fan and I’m generally not a fan of the kind of movies the Academy nominates (a lil’ too serious for my tastes) but my Oscar party has become a tradition. Since I have the TINIEST TV ever, I compensate with giant vat’s of delicious mac n’ cheese (my momma’s secret recipe). There is wagering, of course, and this year we added a drinking game. Each person had one or two things they had to drink for: I had to drink every time someone cried (um, I switched to water halfway through. Lots of weepers this year!). Also on the list: One sip whenever someone thanked God, the Academy, their parents; mentioned India
; or if there was a standing ovation.Yes, the 12 of us went through a few bottles of wine.
As for the show itself…I missed a lot of it due to hostessing duties, and because we were a lively (and loud) bunch. My favorite moment was Ben Stiller as Joaquin Phoenix. Though I enjoyed Hugh Jackman, I would love to see Tina Fey host next year.
Penelope, bless her, was happy to help with the clean up.

Maya! Great post! I agree about Ben Stiller – that was definitely one of my favorite moments, but there were so many others too! I was thrilled to see a Romance montage and I thought Hugh was brilliant. All in all, a great night, even though mine didn’t include vats of homemade mac and cheese
Hi Jerrica! I forgot about the romance montage! Yay romance!
