There was a lot of sex at Lady Jane’s Salon last night–the fictional variety, of course! Perhaps it’s because the weather is warming up, layers of clothing are coming off, and spring fever is kicking in. Or maybe it was inevitable at a gathering of romance fans.
First up, our guest emcee of the evening, Sarah Wendell of Smart Bitches, Trashy Books read from her new book, Beyond Heaving Bosoms, about the mythology of sex in romance novels. You know the conventions–everyone always having simultaneous orgasms, heroes needing no recovery time, and then the inaccurate portrayals about the First Time.
Hearing that made me very nervous to read my sex scene. Well, I was already nervous. But fortunately, I had my gentleman friend to assist me in reading from The Rogue And The Rival. The video is coming soon–and see if you can tell if I’m blushing under all those lights!
We also heard from the lovely and talented Alisa Sheckley aka Alisa Kwitney (so cool she has two names!). She read from her latest, The Better To Hold you, which features werewolves, mansions upstate and, yup, more sex scenes (those we’re supposed to read on our own, at home).
It was delightful to see our regulars: Scandalous Woman Elizabeth K Mahon, Jerrica and her husband Eric, Kwana, Fidencia, Sara, Stacey, and last month’s reader Lauren Willig. Hello to first timers Grace, Biz, and Robin–hope to see y’all next month! And Big Thank YOU to everyone who attended.
