When things go wrong at weddings

While I’m busy planning my wedding, I’m noticing that there are a million opportunities for things to go wrong. At first, I was only really concerned about the weather. Since my wedding will be outside on a farm, my rain plan is currently more detailed that my sunshine plan.

And then there are the cake stories. A friend of mine recently told me how the baker assembling her wedding cake used airplane glue to put the tiered layers together. How does she know it was airplane glue? Because the guy admitted to it! Fortunately, she and her husband laugh about it now.

At my parents wedding the cake fell over. Just collapsed. The big regret is that the camera stopped filming to try to catch it. If only we had that on video! I remember eating it off the ground along with the other kids (I was 10). The photographer got pictures of that.

My worst nightmare, though, is being jilted. Hoping that life will not imitate art, I made my dear heroine of A Groom Of One’s Own suffer that fate. Her beau gives her the bad news as she’s on the way down the aisle, with everyone watching. And then I made her write about weddings. It’s okay, though, because it all turns out just fine at the end.

For some reason, my darling fiancé keeps sending me wedding blooper videos. This is why are not getting married near water. And I’m not sure how to prevent this from happening. Any other wedding disaster stories or blooper videos to share?

I think of you as a NYC girl (even though I know you aren’t originally) so the fact that you’re getting married on a farm is really interesting. I hope you’ll share pictures once it’s all done. I’m sure things will go fine and that you definitely won’t be jilted!

Why am I not surprised that your dear fiancé has been sending you those links and videos? LOL. But seriously, I don’t think you have to worry at all about being jilted. I’m sure you’ll have a lovely and beautiful wedding!

No wedding disaster stories or bloopers to share here.

Good luck with your deadline, and have fun with Lady Jane’s on the road at the RT Convention! :)

    Hi Laura,

I’m definitely a city girl–but one who spends half her time in the country :) I will absolutely share a wedding photo or two, but you’ll have to wait until September.

And if anything goes wrong…I’ll probably post a blog about it!

LOVE wedding video bloopers! Especially when old ladies fall down while dancing or while trying to catch the bridal bouquet.

    I’m sick I know.

Mr. Mark is right! Who doesn’t love funny wedding videos?! I think it is hilarious to see women elbow one another for the bride’s bouquet in the time honored fashion of she-devil fighting for sale merch at Saks.

I have a prized possession photo of my matronly, tee-totaling (or so we thought) grandmother bellied up to the hotel bar at my cousin’s reception with red eyeball glow, holding court with a few other matrons, looking slightly snookered. You go, Granny! :-)

Hey, girls just wanna have fun–even the blue rinse set!

The Inn had no power the day of our wedding. None, zip, zilch. They were literally cooking by flashlight in the very dark, window-less kitchen. Only one guest suspected something was up when she had to pee by candlelight. Everyone else thought it was incredibly romantic :)

No matter what happens or doesn’t happen, if you’ve got the right attitude (and I know you do), it will still be the BEST DAY EVER!
