An exclusive novella featuring the love and adventures of amateur sleuth Darcy Darlington.

Who is The Negligent Chaperone?
Her name is Lady Eldora Palmerston. She was “born” when I realized that Emilia, my heroine in The Heir And The Spare certainly wouldn’t just show up to London alone in search of a husband—she would need a connection to the ton, and so her aunt, a widowed Viscountess, was created.

One of the things I love about historical romances is all the ways that authors scheme to get the hero and heroine alone together, when societal rules of the time dictated that such a thing was just not done (at least not without serious consequences). So how could I conveniently get rid of the chaperone from time to time? By making her oh-so negligent! But I did not want her to be stupid, so I made her smart. Very smart. She knows everything about everyone in the ton, and, with a soft spot for romance, she also knows just when to leave the room.

Her name, Eldora, was provided by my very dear friend, Mark.
